A Colorado School of Mines, in the town of Golden, was originally founded in 1873 by the Episcopal Church, but within 1874 it was transferred to the Territory of Colorado. It became the state institution whenever Colorado attained statehood within 1876.
Early history
Golden, Colorado, established around 1859 as Golden City, served as a supply center for miners & settlers in the area. Around 1866, Bishop George M.
